Boux Avenue, the UK's leading lingerie specialists are here to help you discover if you are wearing the correct bra size.
Here at Boux we already know through data of 41,380 women in the UK that only 19% are wearing the correct bra size. That is a whooping 81% wearing the wrong size. Last year in a YouGov Survey, Boux Avenue also discovered 30% of women have never had a bra fitting*, with 20% only ever having had 1 bra fitting*.
So what are the signs to be able to tell if you are wearing the correct bra size?
The Quick Go to signs of a wrong fitting Bra
- Gaping or Double Busting Cups
- Underband rising up or digging in
- Straps Digging in or falling down
The Full 5 Faithful Features to tell if you are wearing the correct bra size
- Your Primary support the Underband - Does the underband feel snug and is it in line with the front of the bust? If it's a yes, then your underband is fitting correctly. If the underband feels loose and is raising up your back, this can be a sign that your underband measurement is too big.

- Cups - Should sit flush against your bust, if they dig in and create a double bust effect then you would need to go up a cup. If they gape or are loose then you will need to go down a cup size.

- Straps- Should be tight enough that they don't dig in or fall off your shoulders.

- Wires- Should sit under your armpit and encase your full bust. If the wire digs into the bust you will need to go up a cup size.
- Center Front - This is the part of the bra where the wires meet in the middle and should fit flush against your breast bone. If the center front stands away or digs into the bust, the cup is too small and you will need to go up a cup size.

Why do you need to be fitted every 6 - 12 Months?
Just like with your clothing, your bra size can change frequently too, which is why it’s important to get measured every 6 to 12 months. But why do bra sizes change?
- Weight loss or gain – gaining or losing just a few pounds can have an impact on your bra size as your bust is made from fat tissue, so it’s important to get measured with any significant changes in weight.
- Hormones – your bust can change size throughout your cycle due to fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone. Whilst Boux isn't suggesting you get measured every month, it might be worth having a 'time of the month' bra for when your boobs are feeling extra-full.
- Age – your bust can actually change with age – especially when you’re nearing menopause.
- Exercise – if you’ve just started out on a new fitness regime, you might be surprised to see changes in your bust! Exercises that work your chest and back can have an impact on your bra size.
- Birth control – it’s no secret that hormonal birth control can have an impact on your bra size! Many women notice that their boobs increase in size when starting on a new type of birth control, so it’s always worth getting measured when you make any changes.
It is also important to remember different styles of bras (Plunge, Balconette), whether it is padded or unpadded and the materials of the bra, depending on their stretch component can also effect your bra sizes.
