With Valentine’s Day around the corner, Boux Avenue, the UK’s leading lingerie brand, reveals first impressions really count when it comes to dating. In an exclusive online YouGov poll of over 2,000 UK adults aged 18-45*, ICKs are on everyone’s lips as the nation shares the biggest dating don'ts to keep singletons on track for a second date.
According to the online survey a staggering 75 percent of women, and 68 percent of men who have met up with someone they’ve spoken to online confess to having used a social media platform to ‘vet’ a potential date. Respondents who are single listed their top three ICKs from social media, and dating platforms as**:
- Women: 47% - Photos of them with their ex partner
- Women: 43% - Gym Selfies
- Women: 40% - Actively updating their Facebook status with check ins
- Men: 31% - Photos of them with their ex partner
- Men: 31% - Actively updating their Facebook status with check ins
- Men: 20% - Political Comments
Over half (56 per cent) of single millennial women aged 25 - 34 see gym selfies as their biggest ick, yet pictures with animals only made 4 percent of single women cringe.
Once through the ‘first round’ and fully vetted, it comes to that all important in person meet up.
Here are the top 5 ICK’s of what not to do on your first date, avoid these and you should be on your way for that second date**.
- Women: 90% - Rude to staff
- Women: 84% - Weird or bad smell coming from them
- Women: 73% - Chew with their mouth open / slurp their drink
- Women: 63% - If they talk over you
- Women: 59% - If they were on their phone
- Men: 66% - Rude to staff
- Men: 64% - Weird or bad smell coming from them
- Men: 45% - Chew with their mouth open / slurp their drink
- Men: 45% - If they were on their phone
- Men: 42% - If they were smoking
It’s official that the top 3 ICK’s for single men and women aged 18-45 are the same! So you will definitely be wanting to take that all important shower or bath before your date, along with having a spritz of the perfume or cologne. Definitely do not be rude to the staff as this can create an awkward atmosphere on the date, and remember to not slurp your drink, or chew with your mouth open.
For all those shy boys out there no need to panic as only 16.4 percent of women find ‘too shy’ an ick, compared to just under half with 45.2 percent finding ‘over-confident’ as an ick.
Finally ladies, no need to have sleepless nights, or spend hours trying to work out what to wear for your date. Only 17.5 percent of men find ‘poor-dress sense’ as an ick, afterall it should be all about your personality anyway.
